10/3/2022 0 Comments Why to discover your core values?Image by Lorri Lang on Pixabay One of the major challenges of modern life is figuring out what really matters to us. Overwhelmed with a lot of obligations, we need to learn to distinguish between the unimportant and the truly important things in our lives. Therefore, it’s is extremely important to know our core values. Our core values form the foundation of our lives, and this foundation is expected to withstand time, hardship and change, because a person who knows their values and lives in sync with them is like a tree with deep and stable roots and is able to withstand the storms of life. Our core values: • Guide and motivate our actions. • Help us determine what is truly important to us. • Determine our priorities and are the measures we use to find out if we are moving in the right direction in life. • Serve as a beacon of light that encourages and guides us towards our true desires, choices and decisions in life. • Keep us focused on the person we want to be and the life we want to create for ourselves. Personal development blogger and author Steve Pavlina describes the importance of core values like this: “Values act as our compass to put us back on course every single day, so that day after day, we’re moving in the direction that takes us closer and closer to our definition of the “best” life we could possibly live. The “best” is your own ideal, but generally as you get closer to this ideal, you’ll enjoy increasingly positive shades of “better” even if you never reach “best.” And this makes sense because many results in life exist on a continuum.” When we live in alignment with our values, we create the most conducive environment in which happiness, inner peace, and clear-thinking flourish. When we are clear about our values, we reduce confusion, overthinking, anxiety and worry. When we live in sync with our values, that is, when the goals we set, the actions we take and our behavior reflect our values, then life is a pleasure. Then we easily achieve our goals, feel satisfied, happy, fulfilled, full of energy and always inspired for new achievements. On the contrary, when we are not aligned with our values, that is, when we cheat on ourselves (and this is the worst possible type of cheating), then there is no happiness and satisfaction in life, we feel drained and exhausted, and if we happen to achieve our goals, we see no point in it, etc. Living out of alignment with our values, we are like a ship without direction, pushed by winds and currents in various directions, and this causes anxiety and depression. “No wind blows in favor of a ship without direction.” — Seneca Thereby, making a conscious effort to identify our core values is of a great importance, and here comes the role of life coaching. A life coach can help us elicit and prioritize our values, and then set goals and create an action plan that are in sync with our values as well as to revise our current goals and actions and align them with our values.

“We all have goals we want to reach, challenges we’re striving to overcome and times when we feel stuck. Partnering with a coach can change your life, setting you on a path to greater personal and professional fulfillment.” --- International Coaching Federation Knowing your 'Why' is important to your success. It’s the reason for why you, specifically, wish to accomplish anything in life. With a clear 'Why", the 'What' and 'How' will appear too. Coaching came into my life, when I, myself, needed a change and new directions. As far as I remember myself, I have always been passionate about doing things for the benefit and goodwill of others. The years spent working as a tennis instructor, and managing a team of independent network marketing consultants, helped me realize that, for me, there wasn’t a more satisfying and fulfilling path than assisting others in developing certain skills, unlocking their potential, achieving their goals, making their dreams come true, and as a result living a healthier and happier life. And here I was, nearly two years ago, contemplating how to take it to the next level. I remember telling my friends I wanted to find a professional method/technique that was truly capable of making a difference in people’s lives. You know the saying “When you are ready, the master will appear.” And I found it. Found ‘my thing’. Followed a 101 coaching certification and an accredited practitioner coach advanced diploma. Feels great to be at the right place at the right time. You may wonder why I am so passionate about coaching. It’s a simple answer – I have experienced the benefits of working with a coach, because, to be honest, every good coach needs a coach too. As Bill Gates said opening his TED Talk – ‘Everyone needs a coach’. Everyone does need a coach because we all need a friend next to us who does not reproach, blame or judge, but instead:
A coach sees his client as a complete, full-fledged person who does not need correction or healing, and who is able to generate his own perfect answers, identify the most appropriate path ahead, and unlock his full potential. And if you ask me what I like most about coaching it would be that it encourages us to dig deep inside and discover our hidden diamonds, polish them and then shine with all the potential we are capable of. And when that happens, we will be able to continue on our own with an expanded consciousness and higher awareness of the limitless potential we possess. If you have reached a place in life where you recognize the need of overcoming what stands in the way of your success, maximizing your potential and thus achieving your goals and making your dreams come true – then you may consider the idea of working with a life coach. 1/31/2022 0 Comments What is Coaching?Coaching is a method that will always be sought after. Since its inception in the 1980s, it has continued to evolve, expand and refine as a methodology. The world of coaching is eternally evolving and growing. Coaching has been defined in various ways throughout the years, and before I try to formulate my own understanding of it, it will be appropriate to quote the definitions of some of the established coaching institutions around the world. The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.” As per the International Association of Coaching Institutes, coaching is “essentially an interactive, results-oriented, enlightening process that leads to change. Coaching gives everyone the opportunity to live a happier, healthier and calmer life, while maximizing their personal and professional potential.” And perhaps the best definition of coaching, in my opinion, comes from the authors of ‘Co-Active coaching’, Karen Kimsey-House and Henry Kimsey-House: "Coaching is not about solving problems, although problems will be solved. It's not so much about improving performance, achieving goals or achieving results, although all of this will certainly happen over time in an effective coaching relationship. Coaching is mainly used for discovery, awareness and choice. It's a way to effectively empower people to find their own answers, encouraging and supporting them along the way as they continue to make important, life-giving and life-changing choices. " Although the word "coaching" initially comes from the world of sports, today it is an independent profession that is clearly distinguished from mentoring, counseling, therapy, and training. Coaching helps a person achieve a goal, complete a task, overcome a problem of any nature, develop a new skill, become a better version of himself, and generally achieve a better life. Coaching is a partnership between a client and a coach, in which the two together provoke the thinking and creativity of the client so that he can make the right decision in managing his life. Coaching can indeed be defined in many ways, and when being asked to explain what coaching is, I usually answer with: Coaching helps us realize that everything we need to be successful and happy is within ourselves, and that we already have everything we need to lead a happy, healthy and satisfying life. If you have reached a place in life where you recognize the need of overcoming what stands in the way of your success, maximizing your potential and thus achieving your goals and making your dreams come true – then you may consider the idea of working with a life coach. “Who, exactly, seeks out a coach? If you ask a coach the answer is usually the same: Winners who want even more out of life.” -- Abigail Pickus Since its inception in the 1980s, life coaching has continued to expand and refine as a methodology. The world of coaching is eternally evolving and growing, and the term life coaching is increasingly becoming an integral part of our everyday life and work. Coaching is a method that will always be sought after. You may ask ‘Why’? The answer is simple. Coaching works!!! The benefits you get from working with a life coach might literally be endless and could hardly be listed all, therefore I will try to point out only these that I personally find most impressive. 1. Increased self-esteem According to a study done by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), 80% of people working with a life coach report increased self-esteem, and healthy self-esteem will have a positive impact on our motivation, relationships, emotional health, the way we express our needs and opinions, and our well-being in general. 2. Balanced life “Damn it, life! You go from one extreme to another. You never set foot on hard ground. Either you splash in water a hundred feet deep, or you fly in the clouds. There is no middle ground."--- Alexandre Dumas Every time we go to extremes, that causes imbalance in life. And we all know the importance of having a balanced life. Coaching can help us determine what life balance looks like for us, and identify action steps to achieve it. 3. Better relationships Healthy and stable relationships are crucial to happiness. According to the ICF study mentioned above, 73% of people who hire a life coach report an improvement in their relationships. 4. Achieving goals We all have dreams in life, but very few people turn these aspirations into tangible goals that can be achieved systematically. One of the main benefits of life coaching is the ability to define our goals and create a specific, feasible plan to achieve them. 5. Achieving happiness According to the World Happiness Report, published annually by the UN, world’s happiest people live in Finland, Denmark, the rest of the Scandinavian countries, Switzerland and Austria. Coincidentally or rather not, coaching is very popular in those countries where people are happiest. And the reason for that is when you define your goals, create life balance, and commit to a better version of yourself, you increase your satisfaction and open up the prospect of finding happiness. 6. Increased self-awareness Being fully aware of your impact on others, knowing not only your strengths and uniqueness, but also recognizing and accepting your weaknesses is an extremely challenging adventure. The state of heightened self-awareness requires a strong ability for self-analysis and reflection, and this is something that a life coach can help you work on. According to statistics, 67.6% of those working with a coach experience a higher level of self-awareness. 7. Fulfillment of commitments Working with a life coach is more than just setting goals and taking actions to achieving them. When working with a coach, we learn to be true to our words, precisely because of the higher level of commitment. There is a huge difference between being told to do something and follow someone's instructions, and coming up with a specific idea and making a commitment to implement it yourself. 8. Authenticity Many of us spend too much time comparing ourselves to others and focusing on what we consider to be our weaknesses and shortcomings. Coaches look impartially at the strengths and weaknesses of their clients, thus helping them to discover their authentic self. And discovering and embracing your authenticity is one of the invaluable benefits of life coaching. 9. Improved communication According to the same ICF study mentioned above, 72% of people who work with a life coach improve their communication skills. This is not surprising, given that a trained life coach applies NLP techniques in his/her work, and NLP is the most advanced set of communication skills ever developed. 10. Improved time management skills Each of us has 24 hours a day, but some people use those 24 hours more efficiently than others. Working with a life coach helps us learn to manage our time more rationally and thus achieve more in life. If you have reached a place in life where you recognize the need of overcoming what stands in the way of your success, maximizing your potential and thus achieving your goals and making your dreams come true – then you may consider the idea of working with a life coach. |
